The number of elderly people in the UK is growing rapidly. This is set to continue and is going to present major challenges. When you factor in that people are also living longer and with more complex medical conditions you can see the potential impact of what lies ahead.

The numbers of older people using non-residential care are set to more than double from 1.5 million to 3.1 million in the next 20-30 years. That is a huge rise in just 2 decades! These people will need the services of domiciliary care agencies and furthermore they will need those services for longer.

There are few businesses that can predict with a high degree of certainty such an increase in demand over such a long period of time - indeed I can think of no other!

Another factor to take into account when considering starting a domiciliary care agency is changes in funding of social care mean more clients are now able, indeed encouraged, to find their care directly. That means there is more room in the market for smaller niche operators working at a very local level. The large care agencies no longer have it all sewn up with big local authority contracts.
